The Ledger
The photographer
The Ledger is the practice of Abel Kang. Newspapers first — nine years on the city desk — then weddings, once it became clear they were the better assignment: every beat of a front page, and everyone wants to be there. The discipline came along: be present, be quick, print the truth.
Why black and white
Color dates a photograph to its decade. Grey scale dates it to the moment. Strip the color and what remains is the part that was always the point — the look, the grip of a hand, the weather of a face.
Photograph it the way it happened. The way it happened is enough.
Pinned above the desk since 2013
